of defending a movie during interviews every five minutes. According to Zhao, that freedom changed everything about how she approached fashion this time around.

“There’s less pressure,” she told Vogue. Translation: she’s dressing for herself now—and it shows.

Instead of chasing “perfect,” Zhao leaned into fun, a little messy, a little unpredictable. Very much “I grabbed this because it felt right.” Honestly, refreshing.

Even better? She skipped hiring a stylist altogether.

In an era where celebrity outfits are often planned like military operations, Zhao worked directly with designers and picked pieces based on instinct, no overthinking, no mood-board overload, just vibes.

“It’s a physical feeling,” she explained, comparing it to choosing things on a film set. If the outfit clicks emotionally, she wears it. If not, next.

That relaxed approach gave Cannes some of its coolest looks so far.

Hearst revealed that Zhao draws inspiration from spiritual symbolism, ancient archetypes, and figures like Mary Magdalene. Casual Cannes conversation, apparently. While most people are debating after-party invites, Zhao and Hearst are discussing mythology and alchemy.

Honestly? That somehow makes the outfits even cooler.
